Poleaxe vs Sword & Shield
The pole-axe was mainly used between the 14th and 16th century. In several medieval manuals are techniques for the pole-axe-in the Jeu de la Hache, Paul Hector Mair, Lichtenhau, Jakob Sutor are some famous names of fight masters who used and taught the pole-axe
A unique weapon, that could cut meat, crush bones and penetrate armour. Not just used by the typical guards (who might be as thick as a brick) to keep them standing while they slept on their duty.
The movement the pole-axed, is a fine art form. This is done not just by lifting the weapon and heavily striking at the opponent. The weapon is always in motion, if not you might meet your maker sooner than you think!
From a block direct into an attack, short movements combined with mighty blows. A wide range of options and a slightly different concept for a new take on an old weapon. Seldom used in theatre because only a few people know how to handle this beautiful weapon. Luckily the Germans know how!
We will use the weapon in this workshop as an axe, a spear, a war-hammer or just smack our partner with the shaft. And you can also pull and push your partners weapon. These many varied options are what make this one of the most versatile and deadly weapons!
The students will start with the basics of polearm work. Then they will move on to the advanced techniques and will finish the workshop with a short fight scene that will be performed at the end in front of an examiner.
